New Year’s Resolution: Tip #1

Yes, it’s the time of year when everybody everywhere decides to make some kind of New Year’s Resolution.  And here on the Do Not Disturb blog, we’ve got a few tips we’d love to share with you through the days ahead.

Tip #1: Talk about sex with your spouse.

Sounds simple, doesn’t it?  But the truth is, many couples don’t talk about sex often.  We all talk about our career and work life, parenting, the soccer schedule, and maybe the dinner menu, but sex?  Actually discussing it out loud always seems to take a back seat to other things.  Much LESS IMPORTANT things!

So this new year, make a resolution to discuss sex with your spouse more frequently.  But here’s the deal, when you decide to make this resolution, you must be prepared for how your mate may respond.  If you ever ask,”Is there anything I can do to make sex more enjoyable for you?” your spouse may surprise you with an answer.  This is ok.  It’s normal.  If what they request makes you a little uncomfortable, continue the dialog.  The results may very well be a more fulfilling sex life for both of you.

Here are a few questions to help you get started:

1) Do you have any suggestions for how we can make our sex life even better?

2) Is there anything I can do to make our bedroom environment more enjoyable for you? (Temperature, candles, and many other factors may go a long way.)

3) Is there anything I can do earlier in the day to help you mentally prepare for sex at night?

4) What is your most memorable sexual experience during our marriage?  What made it so?

Just don’t let the conversation end there.  Discuss your sex life regularly.  Your spouse and your marriage will thank you for it.
